PBO Disputes Tribunal members take oath of office

The Chairperson and Members of the Public Benefit Organizations Disputes Tribunal were today sworn in at a ceremony presided over by the Registrar in the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Hon. Esther Nyaiyaki, at the Supreme Court Building in Nairobi.

The Tribunal members were recently appointed by Chief Justice Martha Koome through Gazette Notice No. 6381 dated April 30, 2026, pursuant to Section 50 of the Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Act, 2013. The appointments followed approval by the National Assembly and took effect from April 8, 2026, for a three-year term.

The Tribunal is chaired by Anne Wambui Nderu and includes members Christabel Mideva Eboso, George Robert Asewe, Prof. Thomas Katua Ngui, and Dr. Janerose Kaithi Mutegi-Kibaara.

Established under Section 50 of the PBO Act, the PBO Disputes Tribunal is mandated to hear and determine disputes and appeals arising from the implementation of the Act. The Tribunal will play a critical role in enhancing access to justice and providing an independent mechanism for resolving disputes within the PBO sector.

The Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority has welcomed the swearing-in as a significant milestone in the implementation of the PBO Act and the operationalization of the PBO regulatory framework.

The establishment of the Tribunal is expected to strengthen accountability, transparency, and responsiveness within the sector, while promoting a fair and enabling environment for Public Benefit Organizations in Kenya.
